Staff Training

CPD time is precious, so you want to be sure the training your receive is high quality. At Lau Ed we believe in engaging, interactive training, with plenty of time for discussion and questions, and always aim to leave staff with practical strategies they can apply immediately.

Examples of bespoke workshops/courses we have delivered are:

  • Attention, Focus and Motivation: an overview of the different types of attention and what makes it challenging to pay attention, how to support students in class (and not accidentally derail attention) and how to motivate rather than scold.

  • Common Neurodiverse Conditions: an overview of what neurodiversity is, and why inclusion and equity matters, followed by an overview of common neurodiverse conditions, highlighting the strengths that often accompany them, suitable for all staff.

  • Difficult Conversations: A challenge for all leaders, this workshop covers the basics, the attunement principles (the building blocks of effective communication), gives strategies and top tips, along with time to practise.

  • Executive Function: executive function and self regulation are the mental processes that help us plan, focus attention, remember instructions and prioritise tasks. This workshop gives an introduction to executive function, and tips to support students who are struggling, suitable for all staff.

  • Growth Mindset: Evidence tells us that having a growth mindset helps us embrace failure, persevere, accept help and ultimately have more success. This workshop gives an overview of the evidence, and offers tips and strategies to support students to develop a growth mindset, suitable for all staff.

  • Mental Health: suitable for all staff, an introduction to supporting your colleagues and supporting yourself (this was created for mental health awareness week)

  • Self harm: accessible by all staff and especially useful for pastoral teams, counsellors, and safeguarding staff - An overview of why students self harm, what to look out for (and how to respond in the moment) as well as tips for breaking the self harm cycle

  • Solution Focussed Meetings: most problem solving meetings spend 80% of the time on problem talk. By applying this deceptively simple model, meetings can be made faster, more efficient and result in a whole load more effective outcomes. Ideal for teams and leaders.

  • Why Students Lie: Lying is incredibly frustrating, but the reasons behind the lie can tell us a lot about what a child needs. Learn about the different types of lie and how to address them
